Made In America Challenge January ( Plus Chronicles of Narnia/Alice In Wonderland Giveaway)

Have you tried buying American made products here in America? It can be pretty challenging to find, but in my opinion it’s an important thing to do. How else are we supposed to keep jobs here, invigorate the economy, and all of that if we as fellow citizens don’t even try to buy stuff made here? I’m a fan of saving money, following a budget, and being all around ‘thrifty’, so sometimes it is way easier and more affordable to just buy ‘Made in China, Taiwan, Indonesia, or Mexico’. So saying, I have decided to challenge myself to buying (at least) one ‘Made in America’ item per month. Now, I’m not rich, I have an itch for getting a good deal- so I wont be breaking the bank meeting this goal.

I’ll be shopping a lot of small business, a lot of handmade since those are also two important things to me. I’ll share with each of you what I’m getting, and I’ll be giving my honest opinions about them. Of course, I do love to do some giveaways! While I will try to get some extras to share around as often as I can- I’m not promising to every month! I do hope that some of my readers will be happy to share their favorite places to get American Made products, or give some suggestions for things I might be interested in trying next month!

For the month of January (which was sort of really at the last moment because I wasn’t thinking about this long term), I decided to get something a little simple. So, I was browsing etsy for bookmarks (my previous collection had gotten sort of destroyed in a move. Thanks a lot for that mice.) hoping that if I got a new bookmark, the reading would happen. I was pretty disappointed in what I was seeing in the lower cost region. Some were cute, but of course- they weren’t being ‘made in America’! Just as I was about to click away I saw the cutest ever bookmark that I absolutely had to have. Oh- and better yet? It was totally affordable.

So I messaged the shop owner over at Turning the Page, and then went on to browse their other products and went ‘Crap’. I sort of liked most of all of them. This shop had bookmarks made out of several of my absolute favourite books! Chronicles of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Matilda, Winnie The Pooh, Harry Potter- how could I ever choose? The conversation with the shop owner was prompt- they were very helpful and willing to work with me. I swear I looked over those bookmarks a good 10 times! I was trying to work it under the five dollar range when I suddenly realized that they were having a sale- Buy 2 get 1 free!

The universe was there for me or something.

Shipping was super quick and before I knew it I was excitedly ripping open the package for my bookmarks! Then it hit me. While I had purchased one bookmark for me, and one bookmark for ODOP (the 3rd is a super secret birthday present for someone)…. I uh… could not decide which one I wanted to keep. Or rather- I really wasn’t sure which one I wanted to giveaway! So, I decided to have a giveaway- and let you choose! Maybe I’ll head back over there and buy a couple more some time in the not to far off future. I’m going to call my first Made in America challenge a huge success!
